Black Friday Mini-Facts
- The first Black Friday sale in the UK was in 2010, when Amazon introduced the idea from the USA.
- The day was named by police in Philadelphia in the late 1950's, due to the traffic chaos and need to work extra long shifts on the day, however it didn't catch on nationally until the 1980s.
- Apparently, 12% of shoppers in the US admit to shopping drunk on Black Friday, due to overindulging at Thanksgiving.
- Traditionally, the UK's biggest shopping day of the year has been Boxing Day, but this is now changing.
