Pre-Depilation FAQs

Why is pre-depilation skin preparation important?

Preparing the skin before waxing helps ensure cleaner, more effective results and a more comfortable experience for the client. It removes oils, sweat and skincare residue that can block wax adhesion, and helps prevent irritation or ingrown hairs. Proper prep is especially important when working with sensitive areas or short regrowth.

What should I use to cleanse the skin before waxing?

Our Gel Cleanser is ideal for cleansing the skin before waxing. It gently removes oils, perspiration and residue without alcohol or harsh ingredients. Enriched with aloe vera, rosehip, cucumber and mint bush, it helps sanitise the skin and prepare the area for waxing without drying or disrupting the skin barrier.

Can Botanical Oil be used before waxing?

Yes. Botanical Oil can be used in place of powder before waxing to create a light barrier between the skin and wax. This helps protect delicate skin and makes waxing more comfortable. It’s especially useful for intimate areas and is suitable under both peelable and strip wax. Always cleanse the skin first, then apply a light mist of oil and tissue off any excess.

When should I use the Individual Intimate Wipes?

Individual Intimate Wipes are ideal for intimate waxing treatments. They’re large enough for use by both men and women, and are infused with chamomile and aloe vera for a fresh, soothing cleanse. Provide one to your client before starting an intimate treatment to ensure hygiene and comfort.

Can I use these products on all skin types?

Yes. The entire pre-depilation range is suitable for all skin types, including sensitive and reactive skin. Formulas are free from harsh alcohols and parabens, and include calming botanicals such as green tea, aloe vera and chamomile to soothe and protect the skin before waxing.

Is Tea Tree Skin Wash suitable as a wax prep product?

Tea Tree Skin Wash can be used as part of a pre-wax routine, especially for oily or blemish-prone skin. It contains organic tea tree oil, peppermint and mountain pepper extract to cleanse the skin and remove surface bacteria. While it’s often used at home as a shower gel or face wash, it can also be used in the salon as a skin freshener before waxing or shaving.

Are these products compatible with all wax types?

Yes. All Outback Organics pre-depilation products are formulated to be fully compatible with our peelable, strip, cartridge and classic waxes. They help maximise wax adhesion while protecting the skin’s surface – no matter which wax you’re using.

Are the pre-depilation products vegan?

Yes. The entire pre-depilation range is vegan-friendly and cruelty-free. None of the products contain animal-derived ingredients, and we never test on animals.

Do I need to remove Botanical Oil before applying wax?

You should apply a very light layer of Botanical Oil and then gently tissue off the excess. A fine, even film will remain to protect the skin and allow the wax to grip the hair without adhering too much to the skin. Over-application may prevent the wax from working properly, so less is more.

How do I remove wax residue that is left on the skin?

Use Botanical Oil on a cotton pad to wipe away residual wax deposits. Follow with cleansing gel and post-wax treatment.

Can clients use these products at home before shaving or waxing?

Yes. Botanical Oil can be used before shaving to help reduce razor drag and improve glide. Tea Tree Skin Wash is ideal for daily cleansing, especially for oily or breakout-prone skin. Gel Cleanser and Intimate Wipes are primarily professional-use, but could be used at home under therapist guidance.

My client has had one of the following reactions: Skin lifting, infected/raised follicles, burnt skin, bruising

Please ensure you are following all the steps below with each wax:

  • Use Outback Gel Cleanser for every client.
  • Use Outback Botanical Oil for every client.
  • Do not use strip wax on sensitive areas such as eyebrows, upper lip, underarms or intimate areas.
  • Use peelable wax for back and chest waxes, ensuring full cleansing and use of botanical oil as part of your procedure. Use the post wax spray for skin prone to infected follicles followed by aloe gel.
  • Always support the skin with every removal.
  • Check wax temperature periodically to look for changes in consistency indicating a temperature increase or decrease.
