Strip Wax or Peelable Wax?

Occasionally we get queries from customers about which wax you should use for each treatment, particularly in regards to facial and intimate waxing.

Generally speaking, the more delicate the skin the more important it is to use a peelable wax for the treatment. This is because of the way the two different wax types work and the way that skin is constructed.

Strip wax (also known as warm or soft wax) removes the hair by adhering to both the hair and the waxing strip. Because of the way strip wax adheres to the hair it can create more 'pull' as it is removed. A peelable wax (or hot/hard wax) uses shrink-wrap technology, and does not adhere to the skin. It works by shrinking around the hair and gripping to pull the hair out. Because it doesn't stick it is much more gentle, particularly on areas where the skin is thinner.

The areas that we recommend using peelable wax are the face, underarms, inner thigh and intimate areas as well as most of the back. Strip wax is used for legs, parts of the back and chest. Using strip wax in delicate areas can easily result in skin lifting or burns as it can cause the layers in the skin to separate. Once a client has experienced a skin-lift, they become much more prone to them again in future.
