Preparing and Caring For Your Intimate Wax

As well as selling wax and care products for professional therapists, Outback Organics also offer retail products. For those who might be reading this that aren’t therapists, here’s a little advice to talk you through your first appointment!

If you’re new to intimate waxing, you might have some questions about caring for your freshly waxed skin. There’s lots you can do to keep things smooth and comfortable for as long as possible, as well as minimising the risk of skin lifts or ingrown hairs.

Make sure the salon you choose is using a peelable (also know as hot wax), as this is far gentler on the skin as it shrink-wraps to the hair itself, rather than sticking to the surface of the skin. This significantly reduces the risk of the wax lifting the skin.

A few days before your appointment gently exfoliate around the area to remove any dead skin and help free any hairs that may be trapped. Don’t go too hard! It’s delicate skin and vigorous scrubbing can cause minor breaks in the layers of skin which coud increase the risk of skin lifts. We recommend Outback Organics Face & Body Scrub as it has a rich texture and offers gentle exfoliation which is perfect for the intimate areas.

On the day of your appointment, have a shower before your wax. It’s much easier to relax when you feel fresh, and clean. Your skin is also far less likely to experience issues with infection or irritation.  There’s no need to worry unduly about your natural fragrance or look though. Anyone experienced in performing an intimate wax will have seen a wide range of bodies so try to put any feelings of self consciousness at bay.

Before the wax you you will be asked to cleanse your skin using either a wipe (such as Outback Organics Intimate Wipes) or a liquid pre wax cleanser. Your therapist will then use an oil like Outback Organics Botanical Oil to help to make waxing more comfortable and encourage the hair to be removed from the root and not break. When the wax is complete, we always recommend using our hero product, Bush Balm on the waxed area as it helps calm the skin and reduce redness. It is also great to apply over the following days to keep skin soft as it’s gentle enough not to irritate this sensitive area.

In the 24-48 hours after waxing you should keep the area clean, and avoid heat and friction. This specifically means no hot baths/showers, no saunas or hot tubs and no sport or vigorous exercise. It is best to wear loose fitting clothes, cotton underwear if possible and avoid touching or scratching the area.

In the weeks after a wax you can use the Outback Organics Ingrown Hair Serum should you find that you’re developing ingrown hairs. Regular exfoliation is also a great way to reduce the risk of ingrowing hairs. Our Outback Organics Post Wax Spray can be used if you develop post-waxing pimples, but do avoid using this on very sensitive bits.

If you’re planning to take up waxing on a regular basis, you’ll probably want to book in after around 4-5 weeks. By this point you should have enough regrowth to wax again, and each wax you have will get easier. For your first few you may find that the hair regrowth breaks through sooner than you would like while you get the hair follicles on to the same schedule. Once they’re all matching up, you’ll be able to go a little longer between treatments. As you progress with waxing regrowth becomes sparser, and the hairs become finer. Because of this, it also becomes much more comfortable!
