Avoiding Ingrown Hairs

Nobody wants ingrown hairs. They’re unsightly, uncomfortable, and can become infected. Fortunately, with the right care the risk of developing ingrown hairs after waxing (or shaving) can be reduced.

Firstly, exfoliate! The majority of ingrown hairs happen when the hair can’t escape from the skin, and the easiest way to avoid this is to keep the follicles open and clog-free. On areas like the legs, back and chest you can use a cloth or gloves to scrub the dead skin cells away and keep skin clear. For slightly more delicate areas like the underarms, face and bikini line you want to take a gentler approach to exfoliation by using a non-abrasive product like Outback Organics Face & Body Scrub.  Using biodegradable jojoba micro-pearls in a rich, creamy base this scrub doesn’t scratch or irritate the skin. It has an earthy unisex fragrance and contains cucumber extract to calm the skin.

It’s also important that the skin is moisturised, so that it remains pliable for the fresh hairs to come through easily. It is especially important in areas that can be prone to dry skin such as the legs. Our Tea Tree Hand & Body Lotion contains nourishing Macadamia oil, and is suitable for use as a post-wax treatment, so is perfect for using across your whole body to keep skin soft.

Immediately post waxing, you can use our alcohol-free Post Wax Spray to treat the irritation, bumps and pimples that sometimes occur after a wax. It contains lemon myrtle oil, a natural antiseptic and aloe vera, cucumber and bush mint to calm, cool and soothe. This helps to avoid ingrown hairs before they’ve even begun.

If you’ve tried exfoliation and moisturising but you still have ingrown hairs, you can treat them with our Ingrown Hair Serum. Containing natural fruit enzymes from Papaya and Pineapple which exfoliate while betaine salicylate (a beta hydroxy acid) works in the pore to help free the trapped hair. Also containing astringent sandalwood and cypress oils with prickly pear to reduce inflammation. It can be used on all parts of the face and body, excluding the most delicate intimate skin. You can either apply it directly to existing ingrown hairs twice a day or apply a thin layer to areas which are prone to developing them, rinsing it off after an hour.

If you’re keeping your skin soft & exfoliated, most ingrown hairs can be avoided making you smooth and comfortable for as long as possible!
